Founded in 2006 by entrepreneurs determined to reduce pollution in the UK energy sector, Land Energy has become the UK’s largest manufacturer of wood pellets, briquettes and natural fertiliser by putting one principle at the centre of everything it does: Real Environmental Gain.
Based in the Ayrshire coastal town of Girvan in south west Scotland, Land Energy transforms natural forestry residues and low-grade timber into high-performance, sustainable products that actively support a circular economy. From biomass pellets and briquettes to horse bedding, cat litter, and fungi-enriched living soils, every product is designed to maximise the value of natural resources while minimising waste and environmental impact.
Operating from seven UK-wide distribution hubs with its own fleet of trucks and lorries, Land Energy manufactures and distributes six nationally recognised brands, including Woodlets, Solivita, Sorbeo Horse Bedding, and Kittilitt. A second pelleting facility in Lincoln focuses on producing Solivita’s innovative fungi-filled living soils, helping regenerate healthier soils by returning nutrients, microbes, fungi, and organic matter back into the ground – just as nature intended.
Real Environmental Gain is embedded throughout Land Energy’s operations. At its Girvan production plant, forestry by-products are continually repurposed into premium biomass fuels and sustainable consumer products, ensuring valuable materials stay in circulation rather than going to waste. Recycling initiatives across packaging and production further reduce waste throughout the supply chain.
The company’s commitment to sustainability is strengthened by its own biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) boiler system, which uses wood residues and forestry brash to generate renewable heat and electricity. This closed-loop energy system dramatically reduces fossil fuel dependence and lowers carbon emissions across the business.
Land Energy also supports sustainable forestry and large-scale tree planting programmes, helping to replenish woodland, maintain biodiversity, and secure healthier ecosystems for future generations.
