The UK stove industry is evolving at pace. Against a backdrop of changing policy, increasing scrutiny and growing consumer interest in efficient, sustainable heating, the role of a strong, credible trade association has never been more important. The Stove Industry Association (SIA) exists to be that voice.
As the UK’s trade body for the stove and solid fuel heating sector, the SIA represents the full breadth of the industry—from manufacturers and distributors to retailers, installers and chimney sweeps. Our role is simple in principle but critical in practice: to support the sector, uphold standards, and ensure that the industry’s voice is heard clearly and constructively by policymakers, stakeholders and the public.
At the heart of our work is representation. We engage regularly with UK Government and devolved administrations, contributing evidence, insight and technical expertise to consultations and policy development. Our aim is always to ensure that regulation is proportionate, evidence-based and aligned with real-world outcomes—supporting both air quality objectives and a thriving, responsible industry.
Alongside this, we are committed to maintaining and promoting high standards across the sector. From compliance and technical guidance to communications support, we work closely with members to help navigate an increasingly complex landscape. This includes providing clarity on evolving legislation, supporting best practice in marketing and messaging, and helping businesses stay ahead of regulatory change.
Championing modern stove technology is another key pillar of our work. Significant progress has been made in recent years, with Ecodesign appliances delivering substantial reductions in emissions alongside improved efficiency. Communicating these advancements – and the importance of correct installation, fuel use, operation and maintenance – is central to ensuring that the benefits of modern appliances are fully realised.

Collaboration sits at the core of everything we do. The stove industry is diverse, and its strength lies in the expertise and professionalism of its people. The SIA provides a platform to bring that expertise together – whether through technical working groups, member forums or industry events – so that we can collectively address challenges and seize opportunities.
For members, this translates into tangible support. From policy briefings and consultation responses to communications toolkits and industry campaigns, we aim to provide the resources and insight needed to operate confidently in a changing environment. Just as importantly, we act as a trusted source of information for the wider public, helping to promote responsible burning practices and informed decision-making.
The coming years will be pivotal for the sector. As conversations around air quality, energy resilience and decarbonisation continue to evolve, it is essential that the industry is part of that conversation – proactively, constructively and with a clear, unified voice.
That is the role of the SIA.
We are here to support our members, represent the industry and champion its future.
